How to Create a Vision Board That Actually Works for Women in Business

April 24, 20258 min read

I’ve made a lot of vision boards in my life. Some were purely pretty. Some were full of quotes I never looked at again. And some actually changed me. If you’ve ever wondered how to create a vision board that actually works, and one that aligns with your energy and your goals, this post will walk you through exactly how I do it.

Not because they were perfect or Pinterest-worthy, but because they helped me become the version of me I was trying to grow into.

If you're building a business, shifting your mindset, or trying to manifest your next level, a vision board can be more than inspiration. It can be your roadmap, your energy check-in, your quiet reminder of where you're headed and who you're becoming along the way. Let’s talk about how to create one that actually works, one that holds the frequency of your goals, not just a collage of magazine clippings.

Why Vision Boards Aren’t Just a Trend (and Why Most Don’t Work)

It’s easy to get swept up in the aesthetic side of vision boards. We cut out dreamy images, add some empowering quotes, and hope that somehow they’ll work their magic. But for a vision board to actually shift something in your life or business, it has to go deeper. I've definitely hoped it was that easy before!

It’s not about what looks good on a Pinterest board, even though can be a lot of fun. It’s about how deeply the vision resonates with where you’re headed and the version of yourself you’re choosing to embody now...even before the envisioned success happens.

When I create a vision board, it becomes my roadmap. It holds the energy of where I’m going, not just what I want. I don’t wait for the external things to happen before I show up, I start showing up today, in small and quiet ways, as the future version of me who already has the life and business I’m building.

This didn't happen overnight and it's been a process. But the more I have studied energetics, the more I have come to realize that embodying the energy I'm going after in the present is key.

My vision board helps me stay in that energy. It centers me when I get distracted, and realigns me when things get noisy or uncertain.

What to Include on Your Vision Board (Beyond Pretty Pictures)

If you want your vision board to feel like it’s working for you, not just inspiring you, you’ve got to fill it with elements that carry meaning. That means images and words that reflect your energy, identity, and values, not just outcomes.

1. Emotional Anchors

Instead of only focusing on the material things you want, include visuals and words that tap into how you want to feel. Do you want to feel calm and in flow? Powerful and in charge? Creative and free?

Use soft textures, images that represent joy, peace, or groundedness. These are the emotions you want to access when you look at your board.

2. Identity-Level Reminders

Your vision board should reflect who you are becoming, not just what you’re hoping to have.

Here are a few phrases I love to use:

  • I lead with quiet confidence

  • I am a woman who builds sustainable wealth

  • I am trusted, seen, and paid

  • I show up even when no one’s watching

When I see these reminders, they help me choose habits and decisions that align with the version of me I’m growing into, not the one stuck waiting for proof.

3. Energy-Based Goals

This is where I shift out of checklist mode and into flow. Instead of asking “what do I want this year,” I ask:

What kind of energy do I want to live in?

What would the future version of me feel like on a normal day?

For me, it looks like feeling calm in my business, confident in my ideas, and steady in my routines. I love that I get to create a business that fits my personality and lifestyle and that includes peaceful creativity and quiet success. That’s what I build into my vision board, energy over urgency.

Physical or Digital? Here’s What Works Best

There’s no one-size-fits-all. You get to decide what works best for your creativity and your schedule. What matters most is that it feels accessible, inspiring, and easy to check in with.

Physical Vision Boards

These are perfect if you love the process of creating with your hands. They can be taped to your wall, added to a corkboard, or created inside a journal.

You might love this option if you:

  • Want a creative moment off-screen

  • Enjoy working with texture and layering visuals

  • Like having your vision in your physical environment

Digital Vision Boards

This is what I use most often. I love the simplicity and flexibility of it. I usually create mine in Canva or Notion and set it as my laptop background so I see it multiple times a day.

Why I love it:

  • It’s easy to update quarterly

  • I can add screenshots of dashboards, quotes, or spaces that inspire me

  • I can check in with my vision even when I’m working or planning

I use a digital planner and put a small vision board at the top of every week's page and a larger one for each of the month's page. In addition, I have one vision board for the whole year.

What to Do Once You Finish Your Vision Board

Now comes the part most people skip. Your vision board isn’t meant to be made and forgotten. It’s meant to support your daily energy and mindset, even when life feels messy or slow.

Let It Shift Your Daily Energy

When I look at my board in the morning, I don’t just glance at it. I ask myself one question:

What would the version of me who already lives this life do today?

Sometimes the answer is “take bold action,” and sometimes it’s “rest and realign.” Either way, I let my board help me stay on course without hustle or guilt.

Let It Reconnect You to Who You Are Becoming

Your board is a reflection of you, not just who you are today, but who you’re actively becoming. When you have a bad week or start to doubt yourself, your board can be a quiet mirror that reminds you, “This is who I’m here to be.”

There’s power in being reminded of what you truly want, especially when the algorithm or the world around you gets loud.
